The start of summer calls for lots of time at the pool (take it from a lifeguard) and for my family that's meant going to State College, PA to cheer on two speedy little girls at their summer swim meet! My mom's best friend's two daughters are on the Park Forest summer swim team and so when we went to cheer them on, I took along my camera and had a blast capturing the pure sport and joy of little kids competing. There were lots of belly flop dives, some better swimming than I could do, and the cutest swimmers ever. When capturing a scene I've found that the most compelling and special photos are the ones that simply happen when you're interacting in the moment. For me at this swim meet that meant cheering as much as we could for Brynn and Launa as they killed it. It was also Brynn's birthday, quite the good luck on race day, so it was so fun to bring the party and celebrate it up!
Not only was this a really fun family experience, but I was pleasantly surprised by how the candid photos turned out. I've ended up turning these into a series on candid childhood moments at the pool, and the results are so sweet to me. Check them out below and on Instagram! And amazing job to all the kiddos who competed!!
