Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great weekend!! This week's video is an explanation of my Confirmation name, which I have chosen to be Ruth! If you don't know, this coming weekend, at the Easter Vigil mass I will be getting Confirmed. This means that I will be becoming an adult member of the Catholic Church, and for this it's traditional to choose a saint or important biblical figure's name as a new 'confirmation name'. I debated on mine for a while, but finally I chose Ruth!
I chose Ruth for a few reasons, the first of which is family significance. My great grandmother's first name was Ruth, and she is definitely an inspirational figure in my family. Also, the Book of Ruth is so inspiring and courageous! Ruth shows such faith, obedience, and courage by choosing to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi after her husband's death, and the Lord greatly rewarded her for it. Ruth's story shows her taking the path less chosen, the more risky and unpopular route that many say will end poorly for her. She shows such selflessness by choosing to be faithful to her family, and doesn't hesitate to take care of her family above all else. She must have known that by staying with Naomi, she would be giving up any chance of having her own new life after her husband's death, but she chooses devotion to God's will over her own personal ambitions. God rewards her so greatly for that! He gives her new and better ambitions based on where He has put her, because He knows that these will be better for her and those around her!
God has definitely lead me down the past less chosen in many areas of my life, so I'm excited to carry someone who has such courage with me.
Edith Noble [Ruth] Manfred has a nice ring to it, don't you say? 🤪
