May 2023 Photo Journal // Episode 187

Hey there! May was insane, as I knew it would be. This month had so many crazy highlights, it's hard to put them all into one post with either pictures or videos. Fortunately, I tried my best to consolidate them and the May Video Journal is now up on YouTube!

This month held so many large life moments, nearly all of which were so beautiful. Lots of studying, finishing 3 APs, finishing all classes, the end of track season, lots of senior activities, two proms, and an entire graduation weekend!! It was an adventure.

One of the biggest things that happened this past month that really rocked my world happened the day after my college signing to SCAD. On Wednesday, May 3rd, in the middle of english class, I opened up my inbox to see an email telling me that I had gotten accepted in University of the Arts London.... what??? This completely rocked my world. Literally one day ago I had signed to my dream college for both art and athletics. And now I found out that I got into UAL - aka the #1 undergraduate art school in the world, #2 art school in the world, super low acceptance rate, and overall just super prestigious school. I applied in the fall just out of curiosity, assuming I wouldn't get in but knowing that I had given in a shot. This was completely unexpected, but it meant that for the next three weeks I hardcore debated where to go to college, even though the rest of the world thought I already knew. I tried to get lots of people's advice, make some pro/con lists, and really pray a lot about my decision. It was the hardest decision I had ever made in my life (followed up by choosing between Grier and another high school!), but in the end I decided once again on SCAD. There's lots of reasons behind it, but overall it's simply where I feel called to be. It was such a blessing to have a decision this hard, but in the end I'm confident in where I'm going! And really, saying no to UAL now does not mean saying no forever - there's still graduate school perhaps, and plus having the knowledge that I somehow was good enough to get into UAL is something that I cherish. I'm super excited about going to SCAD, but this saga was also proof that God's timing has a plan, even if we don't understand it! He can change everything in an instant, and we're just along for the ride. On the same note: this is likewise proof that you're capable of more than you could ever imagine!!! If you had told 9th grade Edie that in four years she'd get accepted into the #1 undergrad art school in the world, she probably would have laughed in your face. God is so good and I'm thankful for all of the opportunities I've been given. Thankfully that's the only huge story of this post, so enjoy the video!

I've loved making these month recap documentaries (if you will) for my entire senior year, as they've truly allowed me to reflect on each month and what it held for me. Each month taught me different lessons and showed me different moments of beauty in my life, both school and home. I plan to try to continue them into next school year, but we'll also just see how college goes and document it as it comes! This summer will be documented in whatever way I see it play out. June has been fairly low-key with just regrouping from May, lol, so maybe no video about June, but I will share all the fun things that happen this summer of course! Be sure to check out the May video journal and enjoy!!
